- July 1, 1543 Treaty of Greenwich between Henry VIII and the Earl of Arran who was the Regent of Scotland, arranging the betrothal of Mary,Queen of Scots, then 6 months old, and Edward, Prince of Wales (then 6 years old). The treaty was later repudiated by the Scottish Parliament.
- July 1, 1782 Repeal of the Acts of Proscription which, when they were enacted in 1746, forbade the wearing of of tartan and the carrying of weapons.
- July 1, 1999 The Queen officially opened the new Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh.
- July 2, 1266 Treaty of Perth, in which Norway renounced its claim on the Hebrides.
